I’m Dr Emma-Louise Emerson, founder of The EquiCan Academy — but first and foremost, I’m a lifelong horsewoman.

For more than 40 years, horses have been part of my life. I’m an amateur competitive rider, equestrian coach, chiropractor, animal chiropractor and biomechanics practitioner, with an academic background in biochemistry and pharmacology. I’m also a mother and business owner, so I understand the reality of trying to fit horses around a very busy life.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with both riders and horses, and one thing has become increasingly clear: amateur riders have access to more information than ever before, yet knowing what to trust, who to ask and what to do next can be incredibly difficult.

That’s why I founded The EquiCan Academy.

My vision was to bring together an exceptional team of coaches, clinicians and equestrian experts and make their knowledge accessible to everyday riders — without judgement, unnecessary jargon or endless conflicting opinions.

I am one of the coaches and experts within the Academy, but EquiCan is deliberately much bigger than any one person. Our specialists bring different areas of expertise so you can learn from people who genuinely understand their subject.

Whether you’re taking your first steps into the horse world, returning after years away, buying a horse, overcoming a problem or competing and looking for that next level of performance, I want EquiCan to feel like your expert team is right there with you.
